Format
The photograph must measure 35 mm wide by 45 mm high, be a good likeness and be suitable for scanning.
Pose and expression
Only one person may appear. Face the camera directly, keep the head straight and centered, keep both eyes fully visible and close the mouth. The face and upper shoulders must be shown.
Color and background
Color and black-and-white photographs are accepted. The background must be uniform and light, for example light blue or light grey, and provide clear contrast with the subject.
Photo quality
Lighting must be even, without shadows on the face or background. The photograph must be sharp, undamaged and printed on high-quality photographic paper at very high resolution.
Glasses
Glasses are permitted when the eyes are completely clear of the frames and the lenses have no tint or reflections.
Headwear
Headwear is permitted only for religious reasons. The forehead, chin and cheekbones must remain visible, and the headwear must not cast shadows on the face.
